The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel, participated on Friday in the parade marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The president, who arrived in Russia on an official visit on May 4th at the head of the island’s delegation, is one of more than 30 heads of state or government who are in the capital of the Slavic nation to take part in the commemorations of this momentous occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The previous day, D\u00edaz-Canel met with members of the Caribbean nation’s state mission in Moscow, where he emphasized the importance of participating in the events marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over fascism, at a time when attempts are being made to distort history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cuban president also visited the Moskvich automobile factory, where the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, presented him with a check donating 10 cars for social services in Havana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later, along with his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, and on behalf of the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP), he paid tribute to the Liberator Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar in the square that bears his name in the Moscow region of Gagarin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
