Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez denounced on Tuesday, via the social media platform X, that the new restrictions on entry to the United States aim to deceive the country’s citizens and violate the rights of migrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The foreign minister pointed to anti-Cuban politicians, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as the main promoters of the measure, accusing them of betraying the communities that elected them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Donald Trump’s new immigration ban, which prohibits and restricts entry to the United States by citizens of 19 countries, allegedly citing national security reasons, went into effect this Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On June 4, Trump signed a proclamation completely restricting the entry of nationals from 12 countries “with deficiencies in screening and vetting and that pose a very high risk to the United States,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That group includes Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, it “partially restricts and limits” the entry of nationals from seven other countries that, according to the directive, “also pose a high level of risk to the United States,” including Cuba, Venezuela, Burundi, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Turkmenistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
