{"id":8691,"date":"2025-07-25T20:44:50","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T00:44:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/?p=8691"},"modified":"2025-07-25T20:44:52","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T00:44:52","slug":"cuba-experiences-intensely-busy-days-leading-up-to-saturdays-anniversary-of-july-26th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/cuba-experiences-intensely-busy-days-leading-up-to-saturdays-anniversary-of-july-26th-25072025\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuba experiences intensely busy days leading up to Saturday\u00b4s anniversary of July 26th"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On the eve of the 72nd anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de C\u00e9spedes barracks, Cuba is experiencing an intense day of preparations today to commemorate a date that laid the foundation for the revolutionary triumph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During these days, mobilizations are taking place throughout the nation in honor of the national holiday, although the main event will take place tomorrow in the central province of Ciego de \u00c1vila.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The heroic action, which took place on July 26, 1953, had as its main objective to combat the evils of the dictatorship imposed on the island by Fulgencio Batista since the coup d&#8217;\u00e9tat of March 10, 1952, and is considered the prelude to the struggles that led to the definitive triumph of the Cuban Revolution in January 1959.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the name of the Centennial Generation, in allusion to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Cuba&#8217;s National Hero, Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed, in 1953, young revolutionaries led by the then-young lawyer Fidel Castro set out to promote an insurrectionary climate in the country that would revive the Cuban people&#8217;s ideals of independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the early hours of July 26, 1953, they stormed the military fortresses Guillerm\u00f3n Moncada in Santiago de Cuba and Carlos Manuel de C\u00e9spedes in Bayamo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Moncada Barracks was the country&#8217;s second-largest military fortress, occupied by about a thousand men, and the C\u00e9spedes Barracks was another important garrison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the failure of the armed action, most of the participants were killed and those who survived were detained, but that unprecedented event awakened national consciousness and marked the beginning of the final stage of Cuba&#8217;s wars for independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The historic leader, Fidel Castro, himself expressed that the actions of July 26, 1953, constituted &#8220;a new path for the people; that it marked the beginning of a new conception of struggle, which in a not-so-distant time shattered the military dictatorship and created the conditions for the development of the Revolution.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, this date in Cuba was dubbed the &#8220;Day of National Rebellion,&#8221;
