President Trump vowed that there will be \u201chell to pay\u201d in Honduras if election officials tampered with the results of Sunday\u2019s presidential elections \u2014 after threatening to cut off U.S. aid to Honduras if his favored candidate doesn\u2019t win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of Tuesday afternoon, just over half of the ballots have been counted, and it\u2019s not clear when a final result will be announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump-backed candidate Nasry Asfura of the right-wing National Party held a razor-thin lead of just 515 votes over his rival Salvador Nasralla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Honduras\u2019s former President Juan Orlando Hern\u00e1ndez walked free from a federal prison in West Virginia Monday, after he was granted a pardon by President Trump. He\u2019d been serving a 45-year jail term in the U.S. for cocaine trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, President Trump was asked about why he would pardon a convicted drug trafficker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
