{"id":9804,"date":"2026-01-28T15:31:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T19:31:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/?p=9804"},"modified":"2026-01-28T15:31:17","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T19:31:17","slug":"from-the-torch-to-the-university-steps-a-path-and-a-legacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/from-the-torch-to-the-university-steps-a-path-and-a-legacy-28012026\/","title":{"rendered":"From the torch to the university steps: A path and a legacy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Thousands of young people from the capital attended the traditional Torchlight March Tuesday night in honor of the convergence of thought and work between National Hero Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, in the year of their centennial and 73 years since this historic event was first held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the presence of Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel Berm\u00fadez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, as well as members of the Political Bureau of the Party, representatives of the Government, and representatives of social, mass, and student organizations, participants lit their torches in a clear act of resistance against imperialist threats.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radiohc.cu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/LITZ-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33612\" style=\"width:657px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Litza Elena Gonz\u00e1lez Desd\u00edn, president of the Federation of University Students (FEU), emphasized that the continuation of this tradition demonstrates the will of new generations to carry on the work begun by the apostle and reaffirm that Mart\u00ed is not a static statue or a name in books, but an inspiration that multiplies in workers, farmers, students, soldiers, artists, athletes, scientists\u2014in an entire people guided by his legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized that Mart\u00ed lives on in the resistance and dignity of those who do not give up in the face of difficulties, those who do not kneel before the oppressor, those who defend the value of ideas as an insurmountable force, regardless of the threats or the price to be paid for defending sovereignty and the national project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur generation receives the legacy of the Master and his best disciple, Fidel Castro Ruz, with the commitment to rise to the challenge of our time, at a time when, faced with the threats of the enemies of the Cuban nation, ideological firmness and the most sacred duty of revolutionaries\u2014the defense of the homeland\u2014are paramount,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radiohc.cu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/COMO-EJ-300x215.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33613\" style=\"width:710px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>As an example of this conviction, he recalled the sacrifice of the 32 Cuban combatants who fell during the attack perpetrated by United States forces in Venezuela on January 3, while reiterating the Cuban students\u2019 rejection of this cruel act and the illegal kidnapping of the president of that country, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro Moros, and his wife, First Lady Cilia Flores.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radiohc.cu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/MAN-GON-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33614\" style=\"width:693px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Gonz\u00e1lez Desd\u00edn took the opportunity to announce and invite the university community to the Fidel Castro Ruz Center\u2019s call for the first International Colloquium: \u201cFidel: Legacy and Future,\u201d to be held in Havana from August 10 to 13, on the centenary of the historic leader\u2019s birth. Activists, friends, and researchers from around the world, faithful to the Fidelista legacy, are invited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manuel Gonz\u00e1lez Hern\u00e1ndez, a journalism student at the University College, told the Cuban News Agency that he was honored to participate in the March for the first time and relive those moments, follow in Fidel\u2019s footsteps, and keep his memory alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized the crucial role of history, stating that a country without knowing its roots is orphaned and fragmented.
