\u201cWe are planning to send this aid, if not this weekend, then by Monday at the latest, and it is mainly food and some other supplies that they have requested,\u201d the head of the Executive Branch stated during her regular meeting with the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a context marked by the United States\u2019 threat to impose tariffs on nations that supply oil to Cuba, Sheinbaum reiterated from the western state of Michoac\u00e1n that talks to send crude oil to the island are ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We have been \u201cinvolved in all diplomatic efforts to be able to resend oil to Cuba. Obviously, we don\u2019t want sanctions against Mexico, but we are in that dialogue process, and for now, humanitarian aid will be sent,\u201d she reaffirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, when asked if she would speak with the president of Cuba, Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel, the dignitary responded that \u201cif necessary, yes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo far, we haven\u2019t raised that possibility, and we have been communicating through the Cuban Embassy in Mexico,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On January 29th, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring a supposed national emergency and establishing a process to impose tariffs on the assets of nations that send crude oil to Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This decree, another tightening of the blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years, is part of Washington\u2019s current maximum pressure policy against the island and attempts to justify it in the interest of US national security and foreign policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Diverse voices, from members of parliament to political parties and social organizations, have spoken out in recent days in support of the Caribbean nation in the face of Washington\u2019s energy blockade, which they have described as unjust, cruel, and anachronistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheinbaum has stated on several occasions that Mexico will seek ways to support Cuba and has emphasized the importance of preventing a humanitarian crisis in the island nation following the controversial measures announced by the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
