Cuba denounced on Monday at the organizational meeting of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council the unprecedented escalation of aggression by the United States against the Caribbean nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cuba\u2019s Representative, Roberto Caba\u00f1as, stated in his address that this aggression is \u201caimed at ruthlessly punishing our entire population, in flagrant violation of their human rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cuban diplomat also stated that Washington is going so far as to threaten countries that supply oil to Cuba with trade tariffs. With this, he added, \u201cthey intend to make the international community complicit in an energy blockade against our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Roberto Caba\u00f1as further specified that they are using as a pretext the absurd assertion that Cuba constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security of the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The diplomat exposed the true objective of this draconian unilateral coercive measure, which aims to paralyze the country\u2019s economic and social activity and cause suffering to millions of Cubans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this regard, Caba\u00f1as urged those present that \u201cThe Human Rights Council cannot remain silent in the face of these criminal acts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cuban representative in Geneva also stated that the 61st session of the Human Rights Council will take place in a complex international context, as the multilateral system and its institutions are under direct attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The United States has withdrawn from this body and many others while \u201cseeking to impose a new international order by replacing the rule of law with the rule of force,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One example is the brutal military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cuban Foreign Ministry\u2019s website published the full text of the statement announcing that Cuba will present three draft resolutions at the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, scheduled for February 23 to April 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These resolutions address \u201cThe consequences of external debt and other related international financial obligations of States on the full enjoyment of all human rights, in particular economic, social and cultural rights,\u201d \u201cThe right to food,\u201d and \u201cPromotion of the enjoyment of cultural rights for all and respect for cultural diversity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
