Cuba Loses its Undefeated Record in the Pan American Softball Championship

Argentina demonstrated its potential in men’s softball, defeating Cuba 6-0 on the third day of the XIII Pan American Championship taking place in this city.

Leonardo Cárdenas’s team couldn’t get a hit against the two pitchers used by the South Americans, Matias Etchervers and Pablo Migliavaca, and Yesander Rodríguez only reached first base after being hit by a pitch. They also struck out 11 batters.

Nor could the Cuban starting pitcher, Alain Román, withstand the strong opposing lineup. In four innings of work, he allowed six earned runs on eight hits and struck out only three batters. The pitcher from Ciego de Ávila suffered his first loss of the tournament, having previously earned all three of his team’s wins.

At the end of the game, which marked Argentina’s sixth victory against Cuba without a single defeat in the last eight years, manager Alberto Gurrinieli praised the performance of the Cubans, who generally give the 2019 world champions a good run.

For the Cubans, pitcher Yosvani Cárdenas had the opportunity to make his debut, allowing no hits, issuing one walk, and striking out one player in one inning. The Havana native stated he is ready to help the team in the Super Round.

Starting this Tuesday, the super round will be played, which the top three teams from each group have reached. The Cuban team, which debuts in this decisive phase against Venezuela, the current world champion, advances with a 1-1 record in Group A, while Argentina comes in with a 2-0 record, and Panama, which secured the other spot, with a 0-2 record.
