The president of Europalestina, Olivia Zemor, has been sentenced by a Paris court to two years in prison and placed on the blacklist of “terrorists.”
A few days earlier, her husband, Nicolas Shashahani, had been arrested at his home at six in the morning. Far from being intimidated, Zemor is calling for mobilization.
“Israel’s actions continue in Gaza, Iran, Lebanon, and the West Bank, and the [French] government has been collaborating with those responsible since the beginning of this genocide. They will not stop us from supporting the people fighting against Israeli colonization. They will not intimidate us. We have been fighting for the Palestinian cause for 24 years, and we will not stop.”
The pretexts for this political persecution are typical of a witch hunt. It is about criminalizing a political struggle. European countries are trying to silence movements that support Palestine. They want Israel to be able to carry out the genocide in Gaza with impunity.
It is also a frontal attack on freedom of expression. The accumulation of repressive laws criminalizes those who reject the version of events presented by the perpetrators of the genocide and their supporters regarding October 7, 2023.
Trump and Netanyahu are determined to destroy anything that even remotely resembles international law so that they can sow war, death, and destruction throughout the world with impunity.
With this ruling, the French courts have completely disregarded international law. They had already attempted to criminalize the BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) movement against Israel, but the European Court of Human Rights stopped them.
