Iran Not To Negotiate Under Trump’s Ultimatums: Baghaei

A ceasefire means a pause to rearm in order to continue the crime, the Iranian diplomat warned.

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bagaei said his country will not negotiate with the United States while ultimatums from U.S. President Donald Trump continue. His statements come amid speculation about talks to secure a possible 45-day ceasefire.

“Negotiation is in no way compatible with ultimatums, crimes or threats to commit war crimes,” he said, adding that a ceasefire “means a pause to regroup and rearm in order to continue the crime.”

“Our demand is the end of the imposed war, along with guarantees that this disastrous cycle will not be repeated,” he said.

On Sunday, Trump again threatened Iran with unleashing “hell” when the ultimatum he gave the Islamic Republic to unblock the Strait of Hormuz expires at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, after which the United States would attack energy infrastructure and bridges. At the same time, he believes he can reach an agreement with Tehran in time.

According to outlet Axios, the United States, Iran and a group of regional mediators are discussing the terms of a possible 45-day ceasefire that could lead to the definitive end of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.

Citing four U.S., Israeli and regional sources, Axios said negotiations are being conducted through Pakistani, Egyptian and Turkish mediators, as well as through text messages exchanged between Trump envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The sources said mediators consider the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a solution for Iran’s highly enriched uranium — either by removing it from the country or diluting it — to be essential conditions for reaching an agreement.

Currently, Iran wants to extend control of the strait beyond the war and is preparing legislation to impose a toll payment system on ships seeking to cross it.
