Cuban president expresses gratitude for solidarity from Africa

Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, expressed his gratitude for the solidarity shown by the countries of the African continent and their historic stance of rejecting the United States blockade against the Cuban people.

The president thanked the African countries at the main event for Africa Day, which was held this Monday in the Portocarrero Hall of the Palace of the Revolution, where he participated along with the ambassadors, headed by Rosalie Kama-Niamayoua, representative of the Republic of Congo and dean of the African Diplomatic Group in Havana.

In his message, Díaz-Canel stated that at the meeting he expressed his gratitude to those present for the demands of their governments for an end to Washington’s policy of strangulation against Cuba.

The president also reaffirmed the sisterhood between Cuba and the African continent.

“We are united by history, blood, and the shared struggle against colonialism and racism,” the president stated in his address, concluding: “We are children of Africa. We will not give up.”

At the event, Kama-Niamayoua expressed her gratitude on behalf of the group she leads for the ceremony, which she described as a demonstration of friendship, reflecting the excellence of the historical and fraternal relations between the Republic of Cuba and the African continent.

Regarding Africa and Cuba, the ambassador emphasized that the relationship between the two countries rests on a history of sincere solidarity, forged in the struggles for independence, sovereignty, and the dignity of their peoples.

The diplomat reaffirmed her firm and fraternal support for Cuba’s cause in the face of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed and reinforced by the government of the United States of America, and condemned the pressures and threats.
