Cuba celebrates Fidel Castro’s centenary with political-cultural event and closing of the International Colloquium

The political-cultural event commemorating Fidel Castro’s centenary and closing the First International Colloquium, “Fidel: Legacy and Future” took place in Havana Thursday morning.

Participating in the activity were Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, historical leader of the Revolution; the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; and the Commander of the Rebel Army, José Ramón Machado Ventura; along with members of the Political Bureau Esteban Lazo Hernández, Manuel Marrero Cruz, and Roberto Morales Ojeda—President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State, Prime Minister, and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee, respectively.

The moving commemoration was held in the emblematic Karl Marx Theater, which was filled with officers, members of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDRs), workers, farmers, young people, and people from different parts of the world, all united to pay tribute to the centenary of the Commander-in-Chief.

With emotions running high, and through a performance that captured the essence of our culture, with the special participation of the La Colmenita theater company, sports legends, prominent scientists, and heroes of the Republic, Fidel Castro’s legacy was celebrated and the commitment to his work was reaffirmed.
