Cuban Communications Minister Mayra Arevich denounced on Tuesday that the United States’ economic, financial, commercial, and energy blockade imposed on the island is causing millions of dollars in losses to the sector.
“It hinders the modernization of networks, access to software, and cybersecurity,” Arevich wrote on her Twitter account.
The Cuban minister explained that the report presented yesterday on the damage caused by this policy of suffocation to the Caribbean nation lists the harms in her sector, including limitations in the management of the radio spectrum and damage to critical infrastructure.
However, according to the minister, “the greatest genocide is against our people because of the enormous shortages it causes in every family.”
Cuba will present a report to the United Nations General Assembly on October 27 and 28, supporting the draft resolution entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.”
According to the document, between March 1, 2025, and February 28, 2026, the damages caused by the United States embargo against Cuba amounted to $8.083 billion at current prices.
With this record amount, the accumulated damages from the embargo, in place for more than six decades, total $178.75 billion at current prices, 4.7 percent more than reported in the previous report.
