On Friday, Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez and Surinamese President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons held a meeting aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

Following her welcome at the Surinamese Presidential Palace, Rodriguez received the honors corresponding to her office, including an inspection of the honor guard and greetings to the delegations.
“We are very committed to our bilateral agenda. We will sign important agreements in different areas of cooperation. I always insist that this is the way forward: friendship, cooperation, and a relationship in which both countries and both peoples can benefit,” Rodriguez said upon arriving in Suriname on Thursday night.
The Venezuelan Presidency said the meeting seeks to consolidate a new stage in bilateral relations, which reach 50 years of history following their establishment in November 1975.
As part of the commitments, both delegations agreed to establish a High-Level Joint Commission and continue the most recent agreements, which cover matters related to energy, maritime and air transportation, agriculture, fishing, tourism and education.
Among the technical priorities is a review of Venezuela’s agricultural export offerings, intended to supply the Surinamese poultry sector, as well as the development of shared technical transfer programs between Caracas and Paramaribo.
The meeting reaffirms the willingness of both nations to strengthen their bilateral cooperation framework, thus consolidating strategic alliances based on the principles of mutual respect and shared benefit for both peoples.
Accompanying Acting President Rodriguez were Paula Henao, minister of Hydrocarbons; Oliver Blanco, deputy minister of Foreign Affairs; Francisco Garces, minister of Transportation; Daniella Cabello, minister of Tourism; Juan Loyo, minister of Fisheries; Miguel Perez, deputy minister of Communications; Juan Escalona, minister of the Office of the Presidency; Raul LiCausi, deputy minister for the Caribbean; and Ayerim Flores, Venezuelan ambassador to Suriname.
Representing Suriname were Melvin Bouva, minister of Foreign Affairs; Mike Noersalim, minister of Agriculture; Dirk Currie, minister of Education; Raymond Landveld, minister of Transport; Sergio Akiemboto, chief of staff to the president; and Miriam Mac Intosh, permanent secretary of Foreign Affairs.
