Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Party’s Central Committee and President of the Republic of Cuba, denounced that the United States government—unable to justify its punishment of the Cuban people and its genocidal economic war—repeats at the UN that Cuba poses a threat.
“Unable to justify the punishment of the Cuban people and its genocidal economic war, the U.S. President repeats at the UN that Cuba poses a threat. Lies are the recourse of those who refuse to accept the Cuban people’s right to self-determination,” the leader wrote on his X account.
The Cuban head of state also reaffirmed the island’s resolve to continue resisting and defending its sovereignty: “We will keep fighting for peace, defending our sovereignty, and working together to overcome the ruthless aggression imposed on us by the U.S. government. #CubaIsNotAThreat, the blockade is.”
President Díaz-Canel’s statements come during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, a forum where Cuba has consistently denounced the impact of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington for over six decades.
Year after year, the international community has overwhelmingly supported the Cuban resolution against the blockade, which has been rejected by the vast majority of UN member states. Cuba has warned that these measures constitute a flagrant violation of international law and seek to trigger a humanitarian crisis in order to subdue its people through hunger and deprivation.
