Cuban Hugo Franco advanced today to the round of sixteen in the South American Archery Championship of Medellin 2025, which he is attending as a guest.
The best archer of the Island in the recurve specialty at present, completed a double round at 70 meters of 668 points, after scoring 340 and 328 in each of the halves of 32 arrows, and placed third in the ranking.
Ahead of him were only Brazil’s Marcus de Almeida (683) and host Santiago Arcila (680), two men with outstanding results on the international scene.
Almieda was world runner-up in 2021 and bronze in 2023, besides being the first Brazilian to lead the world ranking once in February 2023, while Arcila is currently number 31 in the world ranking.
In the main draw, Hugo was left free in the draw of 64 and will now face Colombian Héctor Julio Ramírez, who had a qualifying stage of 624 units.
