Cuba congratulates Ministry of the Interior on 64th anniversary

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday congratulated the chiefs, officers and combatants of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) on the 64th anniversary of the founding of that body through his X account.

On the social network, the president highlighted the more than six decades of work of the Ministry of the Interior, which he described as a heroic guardian of national security, citizen tranquility and internal order.

Minint was created on June 6, 1961, to confront the hostility and attempts by the United States government to overthrow the Cuban Revolution.

This culminated a period of improvement and unification of various bodies, which began with the founding of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) and the creation of the State Security Bodies.

The military structure integrated departments of the Ministries of the Interior and Justice, focused on protecting internal order and national security.

During its growth, it took under its command the Fire and Forest Ranger Corps, the Canine Technique, the Border Guard Troops, and the Special Brigade.

The Ministry of the Interior works with the population to confront criminal behavior and actions within Cuban territory and also against those planned or executed from abroad.

Its personnel also participate in efforts to preserve human life and safeguard the country’s heritage in the face of natural disasters and health crises.

They also contribute to combating attempts to subvert the revolutionary process in Cuba through media manipulation and smear campaigns against the transformation process being promoted on the island amid growing hostility from Washington.
