The delivery of donations to the Cuban healthcare system reaffirms that international solidarity continues to be a fundamental pillar in supporting the Cuban healthcare system, despite the prolonged economic blockade that the country has suffered for more than six decades.
In a statement titled “Facing the Seven League Giant, Our Unity,” Casa de las Américas warned of the return of gunboat diplomacy to the Caribbean, following the deployment of ships, planes, a submarine, and thousands of U.S. troops in the region.
Published Monday on the social network Facebook, the Cuban cultural institution denounced that these actions, under the pretext of combating drug trafficking, constitute a direct threat to the sovereignty of the Latin American peoples.
The text quotes José Martí’s words from Nuestra América (1891): “It is time for a recount, and for a united march,” as an urgent call in the face of what it calls “shameless imperial warmongering.”
Casa de las Américas condemns the recent decision by the US government to offer a reward for the legitimate president of Venezuela, as well as the statements by Senator Marco Rubio, who anticipates a direct confrontation with what he calls the “narco-terrorist regime.”
The source also warns of the risks of disunity among leftist forces in Latin America, and recalls the impact of the election results in Bolivia as a painful example.
In this context, the document reaffirms the need to build unity in debate and collective analysis, without ignoring internal contradictions, but without losing sight of the historical enemy of the ideals of Simón Bolívar and José Martí.
Casa de las Américas concludes its statement with a firm call to confront the “seven-league giant” by all means possible, and to avoid engaging in discussions that facilitate military aggression and regional subordination.
