In a message of greeting and solidarity sent to the Cuban National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament), the group also urged the US administration to “take the necessary steps to normalize relations” with the Caribbean nation.
High-level Vietnamese leaders have repeatedly reaffirmed this stance, the letter underscores, and cited speeches delivered before the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) by To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), last year, and current President Luong Cuong a few days ago.
In another section, the message states, “We have always cherished and taken pride in the traditional relationship of friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between our two Parties, Governments, National Assemblies, and peoples, forged by President Ho Chi Minh and leaders Jose Marti and Fidel Castro.”
It further emphasizes that throughout the struggle for independence, as well as in the building and defense of the Homeland, the Vietnamese people have always remembered and expressed their deepest gratitude for Cuba’s valuable and sincere support.
Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam, Rogelio Polanco, noted that this will be the 33rd time that, since 1992, the resolution will be submitted. It “has historically enjoyed overwhelming support from the international community,” and he hoped that this would happen again this year.
