Solidarity groups from Canada and Spain are strengthening their ties with educational and health institutions in the province of Holguín, as part of cooperation programs promoted by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).
Currently, the Friends of Cuba group, from Victoria, Canada, and the José Martí Association of Valencia, Spain, are carrying out various activities in the province to reinforce bonds of friendship and learn firsthand about the impact of the interventionist measures taken by the United States against the island, Lupe Fernández Ramírez, ICAP’s provincial delegate, explained to ACN.
The agenda includes visits to schools and hospitals, as well as the delivery of donations of school and medical supplies. These experiences allow visitors to appreciate the work of the communities and strengthen cooperation between the two nations.
Jordi Mata, a member of the Association, emphasized that the organization, dedicated to systematically denouncing the economic, financial, and commercial blockade against Cuba and disseminating information about its situation in Europe, coordinates a solidarity network to channel aid to vulnerable sectors.
The visits to the country allow visitors to witness the effectiveness of social policies, particularly the continuity of education and medical care, despite the economic difficulties exacerbated by the hostile US embargo. This serves as a beacon of hope for a better world, he stressed.
On this occasion, the programs coincided with the celebration of the National Day of Non-Violence and Peace, held at the Ronald Andalia Nieves School, where the brigade members met with students and teachers to reaffirm their shared commitment to the common good and friendship between nations.
Renato Caravaggio, a member of the Friends of Cuba group, expressed his satisfaction at witnessing children speaking out for justice and rejecting violence, in contrast to an international landscape marked by conflicts, such as the escalating aggression by the Israeli government in the Gaza Strip.
The Canadian representative, participating for the fifth year in the working sessions in Holguín, extended his gratitude to the Cuban people for their example of resilience, humanism, and dedication to the cause of social justice.
More than 1,750 organizations from 153 countries support the Caribbean island through ICAP, contributing with acts and actions to the struggle for the freedom of nations and the rejection of the unilateral coercive measures of the United States that threaten the well-being of its inhabitants.
