The Mexican Navy’s logistics support ships Papaloapan and Isla Holbox set sail this Sunday from the port of Veracruz with 814 tons of food supplies for the people of Cuba, amidst an escalation in the United States’ economic war, which has reinforced restrictions on oil shipments to the Caribbean island, where there is a difficult economic situation and an energy crisis.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the shipment of aid, which is expected to arrive at a Cuban port in about four days, in a humanitarian and solidarity action following instructions from President Claudia Sheinbaum.

In a statement, the Mexican government stated that “the people of Mexico maintain their tradition of solidarity with the peoples of Latin America and in particular with the people of Cuba.”
Remember that Mexico “has always provided aid to sister nations in need. In recent months, we have sent aid to various countries that have required our support in the face of the fires in California and Chile, the floods in Texas, and the tragedies caused by natural disasters in several nations across the continent.”
According to the statement, the Papaloapan is carrying essential food supplies, including liquid milk, meat products, cookies, beans, rice, canned tuna in water, sardines, and vegetable oil, as well as personal hygiene items, with a cargo of approximately 536 tons.
Meanwhile, the Isla Holbox is carrying just over 277 tons of powdered milk. The official statement adds that both ships departed from Veracruz at 8:00 a.m. (Papaloapan) and noon (Isla Holbox), and specifies that more than 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans remain to be shipped to Cuba.
With these actions, the statement notes, the Mexican government “reaffirms the humanist principles and solidarity that guide it, as well as its commitment to international cooperation among nations, especially with those who require humanitarian aid in situations of emergency and vulnerability.”
Cuba and Mexico, it concludes, “are sister nations, heirs to a long history of solidarity that we honor today.”
