Cuba’s under-20 team won again in Panama, where they are training for the qualifying match for the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026, against Jamaica on the 28th.
This time, they managed to defeat a rival from the Professional Football League, the country’s top division: the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology Football Club.
A brace from Alien Águila, along with goals from Alexandro Makence and Deiby Borrell, secured a 4-3 victory against the UMCIT senior team.
The Cubans conceded a goal as early as the 6th minute, but by the 13th minute, they had already equalized with Águila’s first goal.
In the 25th minute, the talented player from Villa Clara scored his second, putting the Cubans ahead. They allowed the equalizer and then regained the lead before halftime with a goal from Alexandro Makence.
In the second half, they extended their advantage with a goal from the young midfielder Deiby Borrell, a key player for the team that recently qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, and who also captains the squad.
Before the end, the home team pulled one back, but they didn’t have enough time to equalize and the match ended with a victory for Pedro Pablo Pereira’s team.
The team will continue training in the isthmus until the 25th, when they return to Cuba for the crucial match against the Reggae Boyz, and a fifth friendly match is planned to make the most of the preparatory trip.
