Barcelona will host the second qualifying round of the Premier12 baseball tournament from October 9 to 11, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced today.
Spain, ranked 24th in the world, will host Colombia (13), Italy (14), and Germany (18) at the Carlos Pérez de Rozas Municipal Baseball Stadium, located on Montjuïc hill.
The top two teams in the tournament will advance to the inaugural round of the Premier12, the main international tournament organized by the WBSC, which in 2027 will mark a milestone by bringing together 16 national teams for the first time.
The Carlos Pérez de Rozas Stadium, inaugurated in 1990 and renovated in 2022 with artificial turf and a modern irrigation system, is located in the Montjuïc Olympic Ring, the main venue for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, where baseball won its first Olympic medals.
The facility, named after the sports photographer and baseball promoter, has hosted major international events, including the European qualifier for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, a group stage of the 2009 Baseball World Cup, and three editions of the European Champions Cup Final Four between 2008 and 2010.
The other qualifying tournament will take place in Zhongshan, China, from November 26 to 28, where the host team (ranked 17th in the world) will face the Czech Republic (15th), Nicaragua (16th), and Great Britain (19th) at Panda Memorial Stadium.
The top two teams from each qualifier will earn their spots. Japan, Chinese Taipei, the United States, South Korea, Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Netherlands, Cuba, Australia, and the Dominican Republic—the top 12 teams in the world rankings at the end of 2025—have already secured their places.
In the previous Premier12 tournament, held in 2024, Chinese Taipei won the title by defeating Japan, the world’s top-ranked team, in the final, confirming the growing competitiveness of international baseball.
