Biotech Pharma: a mature, stable, and entrepreneurial company

During his official visit to the People's Republic of China, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez toured the headquarters of the joint venture Biotech Pharma Limited (BPL) in Beijing, an institution he described as "mature, stable, and constantly innovating," making it a model of entrepreneurial enterprise.

During his meeting with the company's executives, both Cuban and Chinese, the president discussed the progress of this bilateral collaboration, which has successfully positioned innovative Cuban biotechnology products in approximately 2,000 Chinese hospitals.

BPL, a result of cooperation between Cuba and China, is primarily dedicated to the application of technological advances contributed by Cuba to the manufacture and marketing of biotechnology products in the Chinese market, as well as to the development of new products.

The company has established itself as a key platform for the overseas production of biotechnology medicines for Cuba, a significant contribution to the health of both peoples.

Currently, its leading product is Nimotuzumab, a cutting-edge drug with valuable use in the treatment of critically ill COVID-19 patients. It is also in the process of transferring the production of CIMAVAX, a therapeutic vaccine for lung cancer, one of the most prevalent types of cancer worldwide.

BioCubaFarma President Mayda Mauri emphasized that the main beneficiaries of these advances are the Cuban and Chinese people, highlighting the positive impact of this collaboration.

For his part, Díaz-Canel emphasized the importance of increasing export volumes not only in China and Cuba, but also in the competitive ASEAN market, which would consolidate Biotech Pharma as a leading company in China and a source of pride for Cuba.

The Cuban president's day began today with his participation in the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people's victory over Japanese aggression in the World Anti-Fascist War.

He then visited the Communist Party of China Museum, founded in 2021, a space dedicated to preserving and disseminating the history of the organization that has guided China on the path to socialism with its own unique characteristics.

The museum houses more than 2,600 images and 3,500 objects and artifacts that chronicle the founding of the Chinese Communist Party, the creation of the People's Republic of China, the reforms, economic opening, the development of socialism, and the path to modernization.

With digital resources and works of great historical value, the museum reflects the mobilizing force of the Party, which has more than 100 million members. Díaz-Canel highlighted this space as a landmark for Cuba, underscoring its importance at the conclusion of his tour.

This visit strengthens the ties of cooperation between Cuba and China, which celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations this coming September 28th, distinguished by both countries' commitment to strategic areas such as biotechnology and cultural and historical exchange.
