Casa de las Américas denounced the resurgence of an interventionist policy of the United States in the Latin American and Caribbean region, aggravated by the deployment of ships, submarines and military personnel under the pretext of confronting drug trafficking.
In a statement issued on October 7, the Havana-based cultural institution warned of a possible military escalation by the United States against Venezuela, after the intensification of confrontational rhetoric towards its government.

The recent naval maneuvers and diplomatic pressure actions respond to a strategy aimed at preparing a conflict scenario, the text states, recalling that the official justification of the fight against drug trafficking has historically been used by Washington to justify the installation of military bases, covert operations and destabilization campaigns in Latin America.
The statement stresses that the real objective of these actions would be to neutralize the Bolivarian Revolution, control Venezuela’s strategic resources and reaffirm U.S. influence on the continent.
In this sense, Casa de las Américas warns of a trend towards militarization and the search for dominance that puts regional stability at risk.
The danger of a military incursion into Venezuelan territory has intensified, the publication points out, in the face of complaints from the Caracas government about a false flag operation, consisting of an attack on the U.S. embassy in Venezuela.
Behind closed doors, the U.S. government is going through an internal crisis characterized by the erosion of its democratic institutions, the persecution of migrants, and the deployment of armed agents in its own cities; a situation that – according to Casa de las Américas – is reflected in its foreign policy, marked by unilateral decisions and a discourse that promotes confrontation instead of dialogue.
The text reaffirms Cuba’s solidarity with the people and the government of Nicolás Maduro, and calls on the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean to preserve the region as a zone of peace.
The socio-cultural institution calls for the defense of Venezuelan sovereignty as part of a common cause for the peoples of the continent who aspire to maintain their independence in the face of external pressures.
Casa de las Américas maintains that the defense of the integrity and dignity of Venezuela is a collective commitment of the region in the face of any attempt at aggression or domination
