Chile: Presidential candidates prepare campaign closing events

Jeannette Jara, the candidate representing the leftish, progressive, and social democratic parties, plus the Christian Democrats (DC), will participate in three events in the cities of Concepcion, Valparaiso, and Santiago, the capital.

The event in Santiago will take place on November 11 in Maipu Square, the historic site where Chile’s independence from Spanish colonialism was sealed.

Most polls published here before the campaign comes to a halt place the governing candidate in the lead, with around 30 percent, insufficient to win in the first round.

Jose Antonio Kast, the candidate for the far-right Partido Republicano (Republican Party), will hold his final campaign event on November 11 at the Movistar Arena Theater, with a capacity of 17,000 people, where his campaign team could gauge the candidate’s mobilization capacity.

Meanwhile, Evelyn Matthei, representing the traditional right-wing, will participate on Thursday in a closing campaign event in Temuco, and preparations are still underway for her final event.

Johannes Kaiser, of the Partido Nacional Libertario (National Libertarian Party), close to President Javier Milei’s ideas, held an event in Maipu on Tuesday, to which few people attended, and will be in the Providencia district on November 12.

Chile will hold elections on November 16 to elect the president, all members for the Chamber of Deputies, and 23 of 50 senators.
