Cuba congratulates Brazil for the organization of COP30

In a message on social media, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reiterated his country’s commitment to contribute to the success of the forum, whose main objective will be to renew climate multilateralism and accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement on its tenth anniversary.

The top representative of diplomacy on the island recalled the urgency of strengthening support for the countries of the Global South, those most affected by the impacts of climate change and with fewer capacities to deal with them.

He also expressed concern about the increasing diversion of financial and technological resources to military expenditures and new wars, to the detriment of urgent solutions to the environmental crisis.

The COP30 comes ahead of the Leaders’ Summit, held on November 6 and 7 in Belem, where Brazil launched the Belem Call to Action.

At that meeting, heads of state reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and the goals of the Paris Agreement, while agreeing that it is time to accelerate efforts to limit the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees and strengthen climate finance.
