The Cuban-Russian Regional Center for Training Rescue Personnel and Firefighters has been conducting international courses in Havana since its establishment on July 11, 2014.
For eleven years, the classrooms of the Cuban Fire Brigade have welcomed students from 30 nations across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The first class took place in 2016 to mark the second anniversary of the creation of the Center, the 320th anniversary of the firefighters corps, and the 85th anniversary of the International Civil Protection Organization, with the participation of experts from eight countries.
One of the primary goals of the Training Center is to enhance the bilateral cooperation between disaster management agencies in the areas of prevention and recovery.
Its curriculum encompasses technological advancements in the latest techniques and tools for rescue operations, fostering the development of students’ abilities in locating and rescuing victims of disasters, and facilitating the sharing of knowledge and expertise with rescue professionals from the region.
The Center has a team of experienced instructors from Russia and Cuba, and has welcomed firefighters from Latin American and Caribbean nations such as Venezuela, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Antigua and Barbuda, Haiti, and Jamaica.
