From April 16th to the 18th, Havana, the capital of Cuba, will host the 5th International Patria Colloquium, a forum for exchange between media outlets and specialists in the communication ecosystem.
The meeting will focus on analyzing best and worst practices in communication, with the aim of reflecting on the sector’s direction in Cuba and its role on the international stage.
“The Colloquium recognizes the urgent need to consider digital communication as a battleground against the projects of domination that threaten peoples today, particularly in Latin America,” states an official publication of the socio-communication project.
Preliminary topics include: technological sovereignty and states, platforms and political power, influence and social networks, artificial intelligence and content production, as well as political communication and grassroots organizing. Experiences from the Global South in the face of media hegemony will also be addressed.
The event will be held at the Línea y 18 Cultural Station, the project’s official headquarters, which will be inaugurated for the occasion. The initiative will be self-funded, with international participants covering their own expenses.
Delegations from Russia, Mexico, Venezuela, and other nations have confirmed their attendance. Media outlets such as Prensa Latina, RT, Al Mayadeen, and teleSUR presented interactive materials dedicated to Fidel Castro, commemorating the centennial of the historic leader of the Revolution.
New this year is the inclusion of Virtual Workshops, designed to ensure the participation of all provinces, in a context marked by the difficulties facing the country.
The Colloquium is thus emerging as a space for regional and global collaboration, where the role of communication in defending sovereignty and building alternatives to contemporary challenges will be debated.
