The distinction, one of the highest in the African nation, recognizes Gonzalez Cruz’s work leading dozens of Caribbean doctors who contribute to strengthening the national health system and expanding specialized services in several hospitals.

It also recognizes his professionalism and dedication in patient care and the quality of cooperation in this sector between Djibouti and Cuba, considered one of the pillars of solidarity between the two peoples.
The ceremony, held in the Hall of Honor of the local government, was attended by the Cuban ambassador to Djibouti, Marcelo Caballero Torres, and members of the diplomatic and medical missions.
June 27th is Djibouti’s Independence Day, marking its liberation from France in 1977 and its establishment as an independent republic.
