A group of 35 UN special rapporteurs has demanded the immediate dismantling of Israel’s US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). They described the so-called aid group that has cost the lives of hundreds of people, already ravaged by famine and genocide, as “an insult to the humanitarian enterprise and standards.”
In a statement shared by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, human rights experts said at least 859 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid at GHF sites since May 2025.
They confirmed that Israeli forces and foreign military contractors continue to open indiscriminate fire on people gathered at GHF aid distribution points, which are especially difficult to access for the most vulnerable people, such as women, children, persons with disabilities, and older persons.
The GHF, they said, “is an utterly disturbing example of how humanitarian relief can be exploited for covert military and geopolitical agendas.
“Seeing children dying of hunger in their parents’ arms should shake us out of our complacency.”
Israel is deliberately starving Gaza’s population through its continued blockade and the closure of all border crossings. The experts said calling the organization “humanitarian” only serves to “add to Israel’s humanitarian camouflage.”
They urged the international community to impose a full arms embargo on Israel, suspend trade and investment agreements that could harm the Palestinians, and hold corporate entities accountable.
“Without clear accountability, the very idea of humanitarian relief may ultimately become a casualty of modern hybrid warfare,” they warned.
The United States and Israel created the GHF to bypass the United Nations’ central role in aid distribution in Gaza. The UN has refused to cooperate with the program, calling it a militarized aid model that fosters displacement.
