Palestinians sheltering in destroyed buildings, makeshift structures and tents have told Al Jazeera that they reject Israeli plans to forcibly displace them from Gaza City.
Israel is advancing plans to seize control of Gaza’s largest city, home to nearly one million people, which includes forcibly displacing its residents to the south of the Strip. “We call on the UN to stand with us and stop the series of displacements,” Mohammed Abu al-Ata said.
‘We are very, very tired. My God! We are really very tired of what is happening in the Gaza Strip. We are sick of war, sick of leaving. We are sick of having to move from one place to another every other day. We can barely manage our lives in Gaza.”
Displaced Palestinian Atef Maarouf said he could not afford to leave Gaza City, even if he wanted to. “My God, it costs you … you need up to $440 for a tent. And this displacement, I don’t like it. Where would we go?” he said.
