People’s Daily President Yu Shaoliang spoke with Alejandro Gomez, acting president of Prensa Latina, within the framework of the Belt and Road Media Cooperation Forum.
They highlighted the special nature of the relations between their countries, which are celebrating 65 years of diplomatic ties this month, and urged deepening bilateral friendship through greater collaboration between the media.
Also present at the meeting were executives from Cuban outlets Cubadebate and Granma, who praised the ties between the two countries in the area of communication as timely and necessary.
Gomez highlighted milestones in the cooperation between Prensa Latina and People’s Daily, while expressing gratitude for the Sino support against the US blockade of Cuba and unilateral sanctions.
He extoled the joint work to highlight China’s success stories, the thinking of President Xi Jinping, and Beijing’s leadership in defending a more just, equitable, and inclusive globalized world, as well as a new communications order led by countries in the Global South.
For his part, the president of the People’s Daily, the official organ of the Communist Party of China, remembered special moments that connect him to Cuba, praised the impact of the Cuban Revolution and its leaders, and mentioned the collaboration in education that led some 3,000 Chinese persons to study Spanish on the island.
