The Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, has begun his official visit to Cuba in the context of the festivities marking the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Antillean nation and the Vatican.

The archbishop arrived in Havana on Tuesday evening, and was welcomed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elio Rodríguez; the head of the Religious Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Caridad Diego; and the Apostolic Nuncio, Antoine Camilleri.

His schedule includes attending a ceremony to commemorate the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations, participating in the inauguration of an exhibition dedicated to the relationship between Cuba and the Vatican, and meeting with the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez.

He will also attend a Mass of Thanksgiving for the start of the pontificate of Pope Leo the Fourteenth.
