UNEAC reaffirms its mission to promote culture through action

The secretariat of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) met on Wednesday, reaffirming its commitment to continue working alongside its members to further cultivate values ​​in Cuban society and culture, according to its digital platforms.

The meeting, led by President Marta Bonet and Vice Presidents Magda Resik, Lesbia Vent Dumois, and Yuris Nórido Ruiz Cabrera, was attended by the presidents of the Film, Radio and Television, Writers, Musicians, Performing and Visual Artists associations, and the director of the Community Culture Office.

During the discussions, the UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) leadership agreed to continue the artistic programming at the national headquarters on 17th and H streets in Vedado, as has been the case in the provincial committees throughout the country.

They concurred that the call is to concentrate efforts on the Movement of Coordinators for Community Work, which has been working in the capital for more than three decades, and on the Art and Community Network, which has taken root throughout the nation.

Among the activities planned for this February is a tribute tomorrow, Thursday the 12th, at El Hurón Azul to the beloved troubadour and former vice president of the organization, Eduardo Sosa, on the first anniversary of the tragic stroke that cut his life short while he was participating in La Cruzada Teatral (Theatrical Crusade), one of the most established community cultural projects in eastern Cuba.

It was also announced that on Thursday the 19th, the novel that won the Italo Calvino Literary Prize will be presented, and a photographic exhibition of the renowned Italian author will open in the Villena Hall.

Organized by the Association of Performing Artists, the Critics’ Forum will take place on the afternoon of the 25th; and on the 27th, the vocal group Sine Nomine is expected to perform in the Open Concert series, which is sponsored monthly by the Musicians’ Association, in conjunction with the National Center for Concert Music.

Finally, the Villa Manuela Art Gallery will adjust its hours, but will remain open for the public to enjoy the exhibition “Forest and Moviola” by visual artist Roger Toledo.
