Venezuela’s Minister of the Interior, Justice, and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, revealed more details about the plots organized by sectors of the Venezuelan far-right to disrupt public order and tranquility during the recent regional and legislative elections on May 25th.
“Almost 60 attacks on oil facilities were neutralized in the last ten days, thanks to the efforts of PDVSA authorities, the Venezuelan Armed Forces,” and the coordination of multiple factors.
In this regard, the Vice President of Policy, Citizen Security, and Peace also recognized the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) and state security agencies for guaranteeing peace for all Venezuelans during the electoral process.
The minister once again revealed the links between mercenaries, drug traffickers, and terrorists. As an example, he revealed that an arsenal was found in a recent raid in Los Teques—of which he provided evidence to the public on television—and reported that all those identified as involved are in custody.
“What they were planning to do was terrible. They intended to attack the embassies and residences of Colombia, France, Spain, and UN offices in Venezuela,” Diosdado Cabello added regarding the individuals’ objectives.
“It is not a coincidence that the May 25th election ended peacefully; it was a task worked on by security agencies,” was one of the main points addressed by the minister, who emphasized that the dismantling of violent groups has been an organized and joint effort.
Thanks to this joint effort, attacks planned from Zulia state were also uncovered, which sought to attack polling stations with grenades. The official stated that there is evidence of the links between NGOs such as Doctors United of Venezuela and PROVEA in these plans.
“No human rights defender can think of planting bombs in hospitals,” stated the minister, referring to those who claim that many of the organizers of these actions advocate for the protection of human rights and seek to minimize the acts of violence by alleging political persecution by the government.
Diosdado Cabello once again took the opportunity to denounce the campaigns of harassment and persecution of public officials from abroad, with direct threats intended to generate terror.
