Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Coop Committee holds 2nd session

Cuba’s National People’s Power Assembly (ANPP) President Esteban Lazo and Vietnam’s National Assembly (Parliament) Chairman Tran Thanh Man agreed on this assessment and praised its significance in their opening remarks.

Lazo affirmed, “Meeting here today is a demonstration of our Parliaments’ will to continue strengthening our historic relations, because both nations have set the common goal of ensuring the irreversibility of socialism and achieving sustainable development.”

Lazo, who is also the president of the Cuban Council of State, emphasized that this second session of the Committee takes place in a year of important commemorations, including the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s independence and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

We also commemorated, a few days ago, the first visit to this nation by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in September 1973, and his presence in the liberated territories of the South, where he raised the flag of the National Liberation Front (NLF) alongside combatants, he said.

In another part of his speech, Lazo, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), emphasized, “Our relations remain in an excellent condition due to their fraternal, historical, and supportive nature” and pointed out that cooperation in all spheres reflects their breadth and continued development.

Lazo also recognized Vietnam’s invaluable role in supporting the Cuban people during a complex war economy situation, primarily due to the multidimensional impact of the United States blockade, the leading obstacle to the country’s economic recovery.
