The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, on Wednesday rejected the unilateral decision by the Government of Costa Rica to downgrade the level of its relations with the largest island in the Antilles — limiting them solely to the consular sphere—without offering any argument or justification whatsoever.
On his account on the social media platform X, the Head of State noted that “this constitutes an unfriendly act, which responds to evident pressures from the U.S. Government as part of its renewed offensive to attempt to enlist other countries in its failed policy against Cuba.”
“But they will crash against the strength of the historic and cherished relations between our two peoples,” he asserted.
Díaz-Canel appended to his message a Communiqué from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in which it rejects the arbitrary decision made by the Costa Rican government.
