Rodríguez was formally welcomed by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley at her official residence, Illaro Court. During her reception, the Venezuelan Acting President signed the distinguished visitors’ book before proceeding to a comprehensive meeting with Prime Minister Mottley. Accompanying Rodríguez were Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil and other members of the official Venezuelan delegation.

Barbadian authorities also participated in the extended working session, which focused intensely on solidifying bilateral ties and expanding collaborative frameworks with the island nation. The discussions highlighted shared objectives in fostering economic development and social welfare through concerted regional efforts.

Alongside their respective technical and ministerial teams, Rodríguez and Mottley meticulously reviewed the integral cooperation roadmap binding their two nations. Special emphasis was placed on strategic sectors such as energy, education and tourism, which are deemed critical for boosting the economic growth and resilience of both Venezuela and Barbados amid current global complexities.

Both leaders acknowledged the imperative of strengthening cultural exchange and academic training as foundational pillars for social development. In the energy and economic spheres, both delegations explored joint mechanisms to optimize resource utilization and unlock new investment opportunities, designed to directly benefit the citizens of both countries under the guiding principle of Caribbean complementarity.

Acting President Rodríguez arrived in Barbados on Sunday evening, April 26, 2026. Prime Minister Mottley extended a welcome via the social media platform X, expressing her certainty that Rodríguez’s visit “will provide an opportunity for high-level talks on areas of practical cooperation and regional development in general.”

Mid-February, Rodríguez had extended congratulations to the Government of Barbados following the triumph in the general elections held on February 11. The electoral outcome resulted in the re-election of the Labour Party for a third consecutive term, with Prime Minister Mottley at its helm. This political continuity provides a stable framework for sustained bilateral engagement and the implementation of long-term cooperation agreements.

Earlier on Monday, April 27, 2026, Delcy Rodríguez was also received by Jeffrey Bostic, Barbados’ Head of State. Barbados, a small nation, gained its independence from the United Kingdom in November 1966, maintaining the British monarch as its head of state until November 30, 2021, when it transitioned into a Republic. This historical context underscores Barbados’ sovereign path and its commitment to regional self-determination. During the meeting between Bostic and the Rodríguez, further ratified a firm commitment to progress in strategic areas that promote joint development and social well-being.

Among the key areas of interest in the bilateral relationship highlighted were air interconnectivity, tourism, cultural exchange and socio-productive projects, all aimed at fostering deeper ties and tangible benefits for the people of both countries.
