Cuban and Mexico strengthen cooperation with the deep affection of their peoples

“It’s a luxury to be in Cuba,” said Alejandra Del Moral Vela, Executive Director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), with the affection of true friends, upon being received this Thursday by the First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, along with the delegation accompanying her on this working visit. “We want to thank you for your presence in Cuba, because your visit also demonstrates the historic relations we have, which are characterized by brotherhood, solidarity, respect, admiration, and understanding,” the president emphasized. Likewise, Díaz-Canel considered that “the issue of Mexico is so dear to our country that it transcends government and party relations; it has to do with families, culture, and the sentiments of its people.” At the Palace of the Revolution, the Head of State recalled that there are transcendental moments in the history of relations between Cuba and Mexico. In this regard, he highlighted the excellent state of political dialogue between the two countries.

“We are very grateful to the Mexican government for its stance toward Cuba during these times of pressure; and during these times that have been very difficult for us, due to the intensification of the blockade, we have received many gestures from the Mexican government,” the Cuban president emphasized. Díaz-Canel commented that cooperation between the two countries is carried out in various areas and materializes through important cooperation projects. He specifically mentioned the “Rural Development and Strengthening of Local Capacities” project, the Memorandum of Understanding for its second phase of which was signed by both parties on the occasion of this visit to the Caribbean island. During the fraternal exchange, the president reiterated “the Cuban government’s willingness to continue expanding collaboration, working ties, and, above all, to continue consolidating relations.”

Alejandra Del Moral Vela, Executive Director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation, stated, "Cubans can count on the Agency's willingness, as the President has instructed us to pay close attention to Cuba and the projects we have."

She also spoke about the successful project that has been consolidated with farmers in the provinces of Artemisa and Mayabeque, which will soon be extended to other parts of the country.
He also referred to a program related to the installation of solar panels in Cuban hospitals, which is currently taking its initial steps. In this regard, he reaffirmed his interest in continuing collaboration with the Caribbean island, a country linked to Mexico by strong and historic ties of brotherhood, which are also reflected in bilateral cooperation ties in the economic, commercial, and foreign investment spheres.

The Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), created on September 28, 2011, is the institutional and administrative body empowered to coordinate, program, promote, execute, and evaluate Mexico's international cooperation actions and programs. Its fundamental objective is to use cooperation to promote human development.

In Cuba's case, the Cooperation Program is comprised of eight scientific and technical cooperation projects in the agri-food, sugar, biotechnology, and environmental sectors, as well as 17 educational and cultural cooperation projects and actions, including higher education, basic education, and culture.
