Macron and Abbas address governance and reconstruction of Gaza

The two leaders will address the full implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza, a US-brokered plan that the Israeli government and the Palestinian movement Hamas signed a month ago.

The French Presidency stated that the meeting is part of the continued recognition of the Palestinian State, announced by Macron at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September, and the ongoing works to implement the “peace and security plan for all in the Middle East.”

The same source announced in a statement that Macron and Abbas will discuss the next stages of the agreement, particularly those related to security, governance, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip with international support.

France, through its President, advocates for a two-state solution and the role of the PNA in the governance of Gaza, a Hamas-controlled enclave, whose disarmament and exclusion from political life are demanded by Washington and Paris.

Another issue on the bilateral agenda will be the urgent need for massive humanitarian aid to reach Gaza, a territory that only receives assistance permitted by Israel.
