Cuban saltworks overcomes obstacles and ensures supply

El Real, an industrial stronghold in the Cuban province of Camaguey, has shown an exemplary resilience by surpassing its annual extraction plan despite technological limitations and adverse weather conditions, ensuring a vital supply for the population and the national economy, reported Radio Cadena Agramonte.

Company sources reported that the production unit has already exceeded 4,000 tons, far surpassing the established schedule for the year, set at 18,000 tons.

This result was achieved despite a 45-day shutdown due to the failure of an electrical transformer and the impact of heavy rains.

Engineer Aldo Infante Peralta, the plant’s director, confirmed that the delivery plan to institutional clients is also progressing well, with an expected fulfillment rate of around 97%.

He emphasized that this success is achieved despite the challenge of working with an aging technological base.

The production of this saltworks is strategic for Cuba. Its salt not only supplies the direct consumption of the population across a large area of the country, but it is also a critical input for priority sectors such as public health—where it is used in hemodialysis processes—the brewing and rum industries, livestock farming, and the BioCubaFarma laboratories.

With sales exceeding 82 million pesos, El Real is consolidating its position as an example of efficiency and tenacity, contributing decisively to Cuba’s efforts to guarantee food and basic resources for its people.
