Bolivia registers decrease in COVID-19 cases for sixth week

The Bolivian Minister of Health, Jeyson Auza, reports that COVID-19 cases continue to decrease for the sixth consecutive week.  The minister highlighted that this week 2,191 new infections were detected, which represents a decrease of 34 percent, some 1,137 patients less than in the previous period. 

Likewise, the minister referred to the country’s lethality rate, which remains at 0.1 percent in this sixth wave.  In a publication on his Twitter social network account, Auza stated that there are also other diseases with which the fight is being maintained, such as dengue fever, which so far totals 3,437 cases, of which 2,554 in Santa Cruz. 

Whooping cough is also monitored and attended by the State, and 271 cases have been detected, of which 259 have been recovered, nine remain active and three people have died. 

Regarding smallpox (mpox), the minister explained that this disease is under control, especially due to the surveillance strategies applied in highly affected departments such as Santa Cruz.   The Bolivian health minister stated that a total of 264 cases of mpox have been reported, and only one case is active at the moment.
