Cuban actor Jorge Perugorría receives the 2024 National Film Award

Cuban actor and director Jorge Perugorría received the 2024 National Film Award for national and international work, and for being a defender of Cuban culture.

As president of the jury, the writer, poet, narrator, researcher and ethnologist Miguel Barnet gave the words of praise, where he highlighted the filmmaker’s multiple awards in all latitudes, his contribution to Cuban identity, and the standard he has set in the interpretation of the most diverse characters.

Barnet also pointed out Perugorría’s efforts to maintain the Gibara Film Festival, which is already a consolidated space.

For his part, the honoree dedicated the award to his family and colleagues, including Mirta Ibarra, Adela Legrá, Isabel Santos, Luis Alberto García and many others with consecrated work, as well as directors and technicians.

The ceremony also included the granting of the Alejo Carpentier medal to outstanding workers in the sphere and filmmakers for their merits and contributions to Cuban culture; as well as the ICAIC sixty-five years commemorative seal to those who have dedicated, from different areas, their lives to the seventh art.
