Cuba’s Telcom Company Strengthens Innovation and Digital Services

The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) is consolidating its innovation strategy as an organizational process that integrates experience, young talent, and strategic vision, with the goal of advancing telecommunications, technological sovereignty, and the well-being of the Cuban population.

According to its specialists, “innovation is not an isolated event, but a process that involves the entire organization and combines experience, young talent, and strategic vision for the advancement of this sector, technological sovereignty, and the well-being of the Cuban population.”

With this principle in mind, the company celebrated World Creativity and Innovation Day on April 21, reinforcing an environment that fosters problem-solving through the ingenuity of its employees.

In this regard, the organization highlighted the potential of its research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) projects, as well as the challenges posed by the adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, issues that shape the daily work agenda.

According to information shared on its website, this portfolio includes more than 34 projects that directly impact the modernization of internal processes, operational efficiency, and the quality of services offered to the public.

The source clarifies that 20 of these projects correspond to innovative solutions and 8 to digital services, which also strengthen the company’s capacity to generate its own technological products and solutions.

More than three thousand employees are part of the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers, while more than 500 are members of the Youth Technical Brigades.

In the area of ​​research, 26 professionals lead business development projects, with the participation of 194 specialists, 93 of whom are women, demonstrating a collective commitment that reflects the strength of the human talent driving innovation, with an increasingly active female presence in technological development.

At the end of 2025, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment awarded ETECSA the status of High-Tech Company, a distinction that recognizes it as a bridge between knowledge and production, as well as for possessing a highly qualified workforce.

Among the key areas are the development of new digital products and services through the use of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and cloud computing.

This transformation also prioritizes the evolution of network systems and infrastructure, with Functional Networking (NFV), Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN), and the evolution of mobile networks.

Other lines of work include systems that support the operation and business of telecommunications, the efficient use and commercialization of data through advanced and predictive analytics, energy sustainability, cybersecurity, and process automation.
