False report about Mariel Container Terminal debunked

The Mariel Container Terminal, in the province of Artemisa, clarified in a statement this Saturday that the audio recordings circulating on social media about an alleged emergency and shutdown of operations at the port were false.  This was confirmed by the institution itself and the General Customs Office of the Republic through their Facebook profiles and institutional websites.

Officials of the entity reported that operations proceeded normally, without interruptions or accidents, and asked users to always verify information with official sources to avoid confusion.

The institution noted that images and videos showing the usual activity of ships at the dock were published on its websites, as part of its commitment to transparency with clients and the public.

The Mariel Container Terminal was created by the Cuban government as part of the Mariel Special Development Zone project, with the goal of providing the country with a modern and competitive port infrastructure.

Its construction responded to the need to take advantage of the strategic location of Mariel Bay, in the province of Artemisa, and to transform it into a regional logistics hub capable of receiving deep-draft vessels, including Neo-Panamax ships.

Regarding its functions, the Terminal is dedicated to the comprehensive operation of containers, including loading and unloading of goods, storage, consolidation and deconsolidation, repair and maintenance of refrigerated units, as well as inspection and fumigation services.

Furthermore, it constitutes a key transshipment point in the Caribbean, facilitating the connection of international maritime routes and guaranteeing the continuity of port operations with safety and efficiency standards officially recognized by the Cuban government.
