Marques, a former president of the public bank Caixa Econômica Federal during Jair Bolsonaro’s 2019-2022 administration and a possible economy minister in a future Bolsonaro government, said the deregulation effort would target more than 1,000 rules, including ancillary obligations and sublegal regulations, “with the goal of reducing bureaucracy.” Balancing public accounts, she added, would require cutting privileges within the state structure and tax benefits.

Existing social programs would allegedly continue, including Bolsa Família, the monthly subsidy for lower-income sectors. She also said that despite the alignment with Argentina’s model, Brazil would seek dialogue with all nations to consolidate itself as a commercial power while preserving strategic commitments in the region.
Meanwhile, Milei’s program continues to lose popularity in Argentina. According to QMonitor research, 30% of Milei voters now disapprove of his administration. Furthermore, 91% consider that Milei harms vulnerable people, and 89% believe that the fiscal adjustment was not worth it.
The PL’s remarks come amid heightened diplomatic tensions after Milei’s recent trip to Brazil to support the opposition, during which he insulted the Brazilian president. Brasilia responded by withdrawing its ambassador indefinitely and limiting its representation to a chargé d’affaires.
Back in July, Milei met with Flávio Bolsonaro while visiting São Paulo and pledged to endorse Bolsonaro’s campaign, stating, “We trust you to stop the socialist garbage.”
“We came to back the blue wave. I hope we finally finish coloring the map the way it is meant to be, once and for all.”
Three weeks before the Oct. 4 first round, Lula leads voting intention but by a narrowing margin, according to a Quaest poll released Monday, Sept. 14. The survey showed Lula at 36% and Flávio Bolsonaro at 31%. In a runoff, however, the PL senator led 42% to 40%, a two-point difference within the margin of error and a technical tie.
