Kerr is the recent world record holder in the mile with a time of 3:42.66, while Ingebrigtsen is a gold medalist in the 5,000 meters at the European Championships in Birmingham.
They both will headline a star-studded duel alongside American Cole Hocker, the 2024 Olympic champion in Paris, and Portuguese Isaac Nader, the 2025 world champion.
“Budapest gives me another opportunity to prove myself against the best in the world,” Kerr stated. Ingebrigtsen, for his part, confirmed that he will also compete in the 5,000 meters, an event in which he is the reigning Olympic champion.
Italian Gianmarco Tamberi, a world and Olympic gold medalist, has been confirmed for the high jump competition, where he will look to repeat his success after winning the continental title in Birmingham with a jump of 2.32 meters.
The Ultimate Championship was designed to bring together world and Olympic champions, Wanda Diamond League winners, and the year’s top-ranked athletes, with a total prize purse of US$10 million.
The event in Budapest promises to be a showcase of historic rivalries and a stage where the “champion of champions” in world athletics will be determined.
