Groups D, E and F of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, the United States and Canada will have their positions defined today, most with a secure place in the second round.
Host nation, the United States, is in a position of certainty. Even a loss to Turkey in Los Angeles would keep them in first place, having defeated the other two teams in their group.
Turkey is the only team eliminated so far, and Paraguay faces Australia in San Francisco. A draw would qualify both teams, but even a loss might not be fatal, depending on the results of other matches.
In Group E, it’s also impossible to displace Germany from first place. However, Ecuador, their opponent in New York, needs a win to maintain their chances of advancing to the next round.
Curaçao faces a similar situation, needing a win against Ivory Coast in Philadelphia to keep their hopes alive.
The situation is tighter in Group F, where Japan will face Sweden in Dallas with only one point separating them, and the Netherlands will clash with the already eliminated Tunisia in Kansas.
A win for the Dutch would secure first place, but a loss could leave them in third, so they can’t afford to play it safe.
